Connections Lead – Job Description

Hours: 2.5 days per week (Sunday morning, Monday & Tuesday)
Reports to: Executive Pastor

Expected starting salary: £20,000 pro rata

Purpose of role: This is a key role at Equippers which is intended to help people feel a genuine sense of belonging, involvement and spiritual growth at Equippers Church. The Connections Lead oversees a team of volunteers who meet people where they are and help them on their journey towards getting planted. They will facilitate relational connections through weekend visitor engagement and follow-up, New to Equippers events, connect groups, and helping people find their place to serve at Equippers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Integration

  • Manage the Sunday visitor experience, creating points of meaningful connection where relationships can be established.
  • Create and manage effective pathways for Sunday visitors to integrate into the church community.
  • Gather and record visitors’ information in line with Equippers Data Protection policy.
  • Manage all visitor correspondence and follow-up; acknowledging visits, answering general queries, and building relationship.
  • Create and promote a culture of participation within church through serving on a team.

Connect Groups

  • Promote and facilitate Connect Group membership.
  • Be involved in content creation for Connect Group series.
  • Manage and promote all Connect Group Leader training and development.
  • Manage all connect Group Leader correspondence; including email, SMS, social media and phone calls.

Database

  • Manage the quality and consistency of data capture across all church member touch points; including Hello cards, new visitor lounge, connect groups, general new visitor conversations and the website.
  • Ensure data stored is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Utilise captured data to present relevant reports to the Executive Pastor.

Team Development

  • Build and foster a team culture that reflects the values of Equippers Church.
  • Develop existing leaders and create an easy pathway for potential leaders to step into positions of responsibility.
  • Actively recruit new team members; ensuring timely and effective integration.
  • Work with team leaders to position volunteers according to their strengths and experience.
  • Schedule and facilitate regular team leader meetings and team member training.

Other Responsibilities

  • Cleves – New Visitor and E-desk areas.
  • Provide oversight to these areas in other locations.
  • Cleves – oversight of hosting, hospitality and venue teams.

These are the main responsibilities of the role but this is by no means an exhaustive list.  The ideal candidate will be flexible to respond to other responsibilities that will arise in the course of this role.

The successful candidate for this role will have the following skills, qualities and experience:

SKILLS

Communication & Interpersonal Skills:

  • Effective communication is a key component of this role. The ideal candidate is confident, articulate and can represent Equippers Church with the same spirit as the Senior Pastor.
  • It is important that all communication be executed in a timely manner; with prompt response and regular reporting back on progress.
  • Communicate using a variety of channels; including, wider team meetings, leadership meetings, group discussions, phone conversations, SMS and email.
  • In team settings, articulate the mission and vision of Equippers in a clear and compelling way.
  • When conflicts arise, use sound judgment, negotiation and persuasive skills that will facilitate a workable outcome.

Leadership:

  • Ability to motivate and mobilise high-functioning volunteers.
  • Ability to set vision and build team.
  • Ability to take responsibility for projects and see them through to completion.
  • Provide leadership, motivation, direction and support to their teams.

Ability to prioritise workloads:

  • The Connections Lead will be regularly challenged by a wide range of conflicting priorities.
  • They must be able to prioritise issues and negotiate time frames, while still providing a quality service.
  • The range of problems will be diverse and often require innovative solutions.
  • It is important that information required by the Executive Pastor remains accurate and of a high quality.

Organisation skills:

  • Be well-planned and organised.
  • Respond in a timely manner to all emails and phone calls.
  • Set, communicate and maintain timelines on every project.

QUALITIES

  • Discrete.
  • Passionate about the vision and mission of Equippers Church.
  • Proactive and self-motivated.
  • Detail-oriented.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3 years experience in a management/leadership role (essential).
  • Previous experience in a not-for-profit organisation (preferred).
