Day Eleven
What Am I Believing For?

Every one of us faces challenges, difficulties and trials. As I look back over the years and think of all the adversities of life that I have faced – chronic sickness, financial challenges, family conflicts and heartbreak, there is one overarching lesson that I have learnt about the one most important thing I can do - pray. Pray pray and pray. Medicine, social welfare and counselling all provide great help but, ultimately, there is no power on earth like the power of God!

What do I pray? Sometimes it’s just been a ‘Help me, Lord!’. Sometimes it’s 'Lord, I need your strength'. But the times when I’ve seen the greatest breakthroughs, the most miracles and the most amazing turnarounds, have been the times I have taken Scripture and declared it over my situation. Here are some of my most trusted and cherished promises from God’s word:

'Lord, I cast my burden and I release the weight of it onto you, for you WILL sustain me; you shall never permit the righteous to be moved (to slip, fall, fail). Your measureless grace will strengthen me.' (Psalm 55:22)

'My heartfelt and persistent prayer, as a believer, can accomplish much, when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power.' (James 5:16)

'No weapon that is formed against me will succeed; and every voice, every bad report, that is rising against me in judgment l now condemn. Peace, righteousness, security, and triumph over opposition is my heritage as a child of God.' (Isaiah 54:17)

As I declare these words repeatedly over my situation, and start to give thanks that God loves me, God hears me, God is a good God... before long, I start sensing the peace that God promises (see Philippians 4:6-7). Then I find that He reveals wisdom to me for each situation, other scriptures to declare, people to forgive, changes I need to make in my heart, and so on. I have experienced major financial breakthroughs, healing from incurable diseases, and had precious relationships restored. I have seen the most hardened people in my world come to faith in Jesus, and my broken dreams come alive! My God is a God of miracles! He is amazing! I pray that over this time of February Fast, you will get to know Him, experience His goodness, marvel at His greatness and love Him in a whole new way!
