Sing: Truths On Identity

I've chosen to write about 'Sing' the movie as it relates to me, how life has been and how God has helped me. This blog doesn’t just relate to my life, there are other people out there with the same experiences as me. To read more about my views on the movie and how it links to me, plus how God has helped me through it, continue reading!!!!!

This movie is all about animals who are fed up with how they are being treated, how life is treating them, but one thing they all have in common is their love for singing - it makes them happy. It makes them feel special but none of them have the time or the confidence to perform.

Then there is a koala bear that opens a theatre and wants people to perform for him and make a show.  All the animals see this flyer and go to the auditions but there was one animal that was too scared and that was the elephant - Meenah. She didn’t want to mess up or let anyone down. In the trailer you see Meenah get told “Don’t let fear stop you from doing what you love.” That to me is such a great quote and it could relate to so many teenagers and young people in general. I can definitely say that this has been one thing in the last couple of years that has held me back.

I was always scared of telling people my beliefs and who I wanted to be, as I never wanted to be judged so I let my fears get the better of me. In Psalm 19:13 it says “Don’t let me do what I know is wrong. Don’t let sins control me. If you help me, I can be pure and free from sins.” This shows us that nothing on this earth can tie us down and if God helps us to be who we are called to be, then we can do it. No matter what life does or what life throws at us we can always be ourselves and no one can bring us down.

Recently I got told “when you are happy and at your best, God will be protecting you but the devil will always try to come in and try to ruin everything. All you have to do is stay committed to what you want and not let anyone else ruin it for you.”  That to me was really special to be told as around that time I felt like I was in the wrong, and couldn’t do anything right but like I got told, God's is the only opinion we need to worry about.

God now plays a massive part in my life and has helped me overcome my worries and fears. He has lead me to an amazing church (Equippers Surrey) full of so many great experiences and fabulous people. I now help and lead people out of their fears and help them to open up and show them how it’s not all bad and how these experiences help you become YOU. This has been an amazing change for me and it has really opened up new opportunities for me as I remember that, even in the darkest of times, God is with me.
